The term domain name has multiple related meanings:
* Hostnames that identify computers on the Internet. These names appear as a component in Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) for Internet resources such as web sites (e.g., en.wikipedia.org).
* Registered domain names, which are administered by domain name registrars.
* Names used to define realms of administrative autonomy, authority, or control, based on the Domain Name System (DNS): for example, the top-level domains (e.g., .com), the realm identifiers used in the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), or DomainKeys used to verify DNS domains in e-mail systems, or other Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs).

WHOIS button in Firefox
A couple of days ago, I was looking for a simple add-on in Firefox which would allow me to perform WHOIS queries without too much hassle. At first, I was overwhelmed by the a choice of no less than 28 different add-ons. However, after filtering out the experimental tools, the overly bulky and complicated tools, the tools which aren't ready for Firefox 3 even though it was released ages ago, I was left with two options. However, after I installed the first one, Firefox crashed without warning. The second one just didn't do anything; there was no button to click.
